Fish Curry(ମାଛ ତରକାରୀ)


  • Fish (Rohu/Catla) - 500gms (ମାଛ) 
  • Mustard oil(deep frying the fish)(ସୋରିଷ ତେଲ)  
  • Mustard oil - 3 tbsp (ସୋରିଷ ତେଲ)  
  • Mustard seeds - 1 tsp (ସୋରିଷ
  • Cumin seeds - 1tsp (ଜିରା) 
  • Dry Red Chilly - 2(ଶୁଖିଲା ଲଙ୍କା)  
  • Poppy seeds - 1 tsp(ପୋସ୍ତକଦାନା)  
  • Onion -1 large (ପିଆଜ)  
  • Garlic cloves - 6(ରସୁଣ)  
  • Green chilies - 1  
  • Tomato - 2 large(ଟମାଟର)  
  • Coriander leaves (ଧନିଆ ପତ୍ର)  
  • Turmeric powder - 1 tsp (ହଳଦୀ ଗୁଣ୍ଡ
  • Salt to taste(ଲୁଣ)

    • Grind mustard seeds, cumin seeds, poppey seeds,dry chilly, garlic and 1 onion in quarter cup of water to make a fine paste of spices.
    • Cut the tomatoes and make it fine paste.
    • Cut the fish into big pieces and wash them properly in water.
    • Add salt and turmeric powder to it and mix it well and keep aside for 10 minutes to marinate.
    • Heat oil in a pan and deep fry the pieces of fish till they are brown. Remember not to over-fry them. Keep them aside.
    • In a pan take 3 tsp of oil.
    • Add the masala paste into to it. Lower the flame and sauté it for 4-5 mins till the spices are nicely brown.
    • Add long slit green chilies.
    • Add salt,turmeric powder and tomato paste, salt and mix it properly.
    • Cook it for 5 mins till tomato paste is cooked nicely.
    • Add 2 cups water to it and stir well to mix the spices. (You can add water according to your preference of thickness of gravy)
    • Cover the lid of the pan and leave it for 5 minutes till the water starts to boil.
    • Add the pieces of fried fish into it.
    • Let it boil for 2 minutes.
    • Garnish with some coriander leaves.
